Taxation for International Clients
We have a wealth of experience advising international individuals on their personal and business connections to the UK.
This includes advising on:
- the UK tax implications of relocating to the UK, including considering the application of the UK’s statutory residence test and the highly favourable remittance basis of taxation;
- explaining the tax planning that can be carried out before relocating to the UK to take advantage of the remittance basis of taxation;
- the UK taxation and administration of offshore structures, particularly where such structures hold UK assets or have UK resident beneficiaries;
- the corporate and individual taxation relating to the ownership and structuring of UK companies; and
- estate planning where clients have assets in multiple jurisdictions, including preparing Wills and administering international estates and coordinating legal and practical advice across jurisdictions to ensure planning is joined-up.
Recent work has involved
- Advising a high net worth individual on pre-arrival planning before becoming tax resident in the UK, including advice relating to the remittance basis, the tax efficient investments in the UK, the taxation of non-UK trusts and management and control issues in relation to non-UK companies;
- Designing the most efficient ownership structure for a client to hold valuable UK real estate;
- Comparing asset holding vehicles (such as trusts, foundations and family investment companies) and the possible jurisdictions in which to create such assets holding structures for a client with connections to multiple jurisdictions;
- Advising a very private internationally mobile family on the transition of wealth deriving from a successful, well-established business to the next generation, using a simple structure to promote the family’s agreed objective to preserve and enhance ‘legacy’ assets for the benefit of future generations; and
- Advising a client with assets in multiple jurisdictions, including drafting cross-border wills and liaising with local lawyers in multiple jurisdictions to ensure the estate planning was effective.
Excellent advice on immigration matters.
