Edward Burton
One of the most gifted and receptive lawyers in London
Chambers & Partners (HNW)
Edward has experience in working across the spectrum of residential property work, from listed buildings on the London estates to new build super prime apartments and country houses. He regularly acts on the most complex and highest value deals in London. He also advises on enfranchisement and lease extensions as well as working closely with the Private Wealth team on residential property structures. Edward is used to exchanging and completing transactions in very short time frames, and at times, within a day.
Having obtained MAs from Oxford University and Durham University and an LLB from the College of Law, Edward trained and qualified at Allen & Overy LLP in March 2012 before joining Maurice Turnor Gardner in September 2013.
Edward is top ranked as a Band 1 lawyer in the Chambers HNW Guide 2023, where he is described as “one of the most gifted and receptive lawyers in London” and praised for his excellent technical and commercial expertise. Sources comment that “he has a razor-sharp mind and knowledge of property law”. The guide adds that he is “ an absolute pleasure to work with and is always extremely responsive and reactive.”
Previous Chambers comments have included that Edward is “perhaps the smartest brain of all property lawyers… he does it all with a bit of humour and is very likeable” and that “he is a problem solver and he works tirelessly with boundless enthusiasm and energy”. Others said “you couldn’t find a more efficient lawyer out there… he is everything you want in a residential solicitor”.
Edward is also listed in the Legal 500 2023 as a ‘Next Generation Partner’, with interviewees noting that he forms “the best property duo in the industry” with head of Real Estate Sarah Conway. He is included in the 2023 Spear’s Property Advisers Index as a Recommended property lawyer, and he was previously ranked as one of eprivateclient’s Top 35 under 35.
