Claire advises UK and international individuals, trustees and family offices on a wide variety of tax, wealth structuring and estate planning issues. She has particular experience advising high net worth individuals in relation to pre-UK immigration planning strategies and the tax implications of being UK tax resident but non-UK domiciled. She frequently advises trustees of offshore structures on UK tax issues. She also has a keen interest in the UK taxation of high value residential property.
Claire is an experienced public speaker and regularly speaks at a range of international conferences, as well as writing for both specialist and general publications on private wealth issues. She was promoted to Partner in 2021.
Expertise
Claire has particular experience of advising entrepreneurial high net worth individuals from the high-growth economies in relation to pre-immigration planning strategies and in advising the trustees of offshore structures on UK tax issues. She also has a keen interest in the UK taxation of high value residential property and advising ‘non-doms’ on the implications of the various proposed reforms of recent years.
Claire also has experience in relation to international estate planning, including drafting wills and lasting powers of attorney and advising on the inheritance tax implications of passing assets to the next generation and cross-border issues.
Claire advises executors, trustees and beneficiaries on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious issues.
Recent experience includes:
- advising high-net worth individuals on moving to the UK, including residence, domicile and the remittance basis of taxation;
- advising on the alternative holding structures for high-value UK residential property;
- advising UK resident individuals approaching deemed domicile for UK IHT purposes; and
- advising UK resident beneficiaries on the tax implications of receiving distributions and benefits from offshore structures.
Claire advises on a wide range of issues affecting charities including the formation and ongoing administration of charities, the duties of charity trustees, UK tax issues and day-to-day governance matters.
Claire is an expert on the UK taxation of high value residential property and the various beneficial ownership regimes that apply.
